Inspected vehicle on hoist and scanned for codes. Found P0420- catalyst efficiency below threshold bank 1, and P1326- knock sensor plausibility. Found engine in limp mode, unable to accelerate above 10 mph. Inspected engine oil and found it in normal range. Found manufacturer tsb ( technical service bulletin) related to the P1326 code which states the check engine light flashes when the system detects excess connecting rod bearing damage, and in order to prevent total engine failure places vehicle in limp mode, unable to accelerate normally. This engine condition usually calls for engine replacement. Manufacturer has extended warranty coverage on these engines, and replacement may be covered at dealership.

Test drove and inspected vehicle. Scanned for codes and found p0128- coolant thermostat (below regulating temp). Inspected cooling system level and condition and found no faults. Cleared code and let vehicle run to normal operating temp while watching data with scan tool and the vehicle seemed to warm up normally within normal timeframe . This vehicle just had a t-stat installed at another shop. If this code returns we will have to start over with replacing the t-stat with a known quality part, as it is unknown if a quality, correct part has been installed. Also noticed the vehicle has a rough idle and a running problem that causes it to die out at times while at idle. Further diag would have to be performed to determine the cause.
