Test drove and inspected vehicle. Scanned for codes and found p0128- coolant thermostat (below regulating temp). Inspected cooling system level and condition and found no faults. Cleared code and let vehicle run to normal operating temp while watching data with scan tool and the vehicle seemed to warm up normally within normal timeframe . This vehicle just had a t-stat installed at another shop. If this code returns we will have to start over with replacing the t-stat with a known quality part, as it is unknown if a quality, correct part has been installed. Also noticed the vehicle has a rough idle and a running problem that causes it to die out at times while at idle. Further diag would have to be performed to determine the cause.

Inspected vehicle on hoist. Confirmed no-start condition. Scanned for codes and found p0075- intake valve control circuit bank 1. Inspected sensor circuits and connections and found no faults. Removed sensor for inspection and found sensor resistance out of spec and a small amount of metallic debris on screen of sensor. Replaced sensor and cleared codes. After vehicle started up noticed the engine has a knock type noise while running. Inspected engine oil level and condition and found to be ok. Customer gave ok to remove valve cover to inspect upper engine for damage and found the timing chain appeared to have excess slack, but no other engine damage was visable. The engine knock seems loudest from the oil pan area, suggesting a possible rod knock. Engine replacement is recommended.
